New rumors about Samsung Galaxy Fold point towards a massive battery capacity. According to a report by LetsGoDigital, the phone will feature a massive 6,000 mAh battery. Furthermore, it’s going to be in two separate cells rather than a single 6,000 mAh cell. This is probably to facilitate the foldable design of the phone, which won’t have enough space for a single large battery unit.
Other info revealed in the report mentions that Samsung Galaxy Fold will be powered either by the Exynos 9820 or Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 855. It will have 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
There will also be a dual camera setup on the back, with two 12 MP sensors. While on the front, it will have a single 8 MP shooter. Take this with a grain of salt as Samsung is shifting towards triple and quad cameras (as seen in the new A-series phones).
The Next Big Thing?
Foldable phones are poised to be the next big thing in the smartphone industry. The form factor enables better media consumption thanks to the tablet-like unfolded screen and the portability of a smartphone when folded.Samsung is expecting foldable phones to blow up in 2019, with overall shipments exceeding 4 million units in one year alone. Samsung itself is hoping to ship at least 1 million units of the Galaxy Fold next year.
Again, there are no guarantees that foldable phones will even gain traction as they’re expected to be quite expensive compared to regular smartphones.
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is expected to cost around $2,500, well above even Apple’s iPhone XS Max, and will be unveiled in March 2019.
