Huawei Launches Nova 4 With The World’s First 48 MP Camera

Huawei has officially unveiled a successor to their popular Nova 3 phone with the Nova 4. It comes with a similar Infinity-O display that Samsung Galaxy A8s boasts, which has an in-display camera hole.
There’s also the world’s first 48 MP smartphone camera included on the Nova 4.

From a design point of view, it looks like a mash between Huawei’s own P20 Pro (from the back) and Samsung’s Galaxy A8s (front). Like most premium mid-rangers it has a glass sandwich design with a metal frame running through the middle.

On the front, there’s an edge-to-edge screen with a small camera hole at the top left corner of the display. Huawei claims that the camera hole’s diameter is smaller than the Galaxy A8s (4.5mm vs 6.5mm).
The 6.4-inch display comes at a Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2310) with an 86.3% screen-to-body ratio.
There is no in-display fingerprint scanner, Nova 4 makes do with a regular one at the back.

Internals and Storage

Huawei Nova 4 is powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC, which is well over a year old now. Still, it makes sense in a mid-ranger. There’s 8 GB of RAM onboard with 128 GB storage. You also get a microSD card slot for additional storage options.
Underneath, it runs Android 9.0 Pie with Huawei’s proprietary EMUI 9.0.1 skin.

Cameras

Now the interesting bit. Nova 4 will come in two different models, each with its own slightly different camera configuration. The rest of the specs remain unchanged.
The regular Nova 4 will have a 20 MP f/1.8 main sensor, a 16MP f/2.2 wide-angle sensor and a 2 MP f/2.4 camera for bokeh effect.
The higher-end Nova 4 will feature a 48 MP f/1.8 main camera instead, with the same secondary sensors.
For the front camera, it will have a single 25 MP selfie camera.

Battery and Price

The phone will come with a 3,750 mAh battery alongwith fast charging support. Huawei has launched the Nova 4 in China only, for now.

It will be available in Red, White, Aurora Blue and Black colors, at a price of CNY 3,100 ($450) for the regular model and CNY 3,400 ($490) for the 48 MP model.
