Vivo Launches the Mid-range Y89 With Dual Cameras and a Notch

Vivo’s Y-series is a mid-range series of smartphones, offering decent specifications for the prices. Its latest iteration, Y89, has launched quietly in China.
Vivo has managed to cram some good specifications in Y89 for its price, but the currency difference will probably kill it if it manages to launch in Pakistan.

Keeping up with the previous Y-series smartphones, the Y89 also comes with a plastic body. It does come with some nice colored backs. The back also houses the dual rear-facing cameras.
The front has a notched screen with a chin at the bottom. The power button and volume rocker are located on the right side of the phone whereas you’ll find the charging port and 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom of the phone.

The display is a 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel with a Full HD+ resolution (2280 x 1080) and a notch on top which makes the aspect ratio 18:9.

Hardware

Powering the Vivo Y89 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor. The RAM is a generous 4GB and internal storage is 64GB.
However, if you think 64GB is not enough, there’s also a microSD card slot available which allows you to expand the storage by up to 256GB.

Cameras

There are dual cameras on the back of the phone. The main sensor is a 16MP unit with an f/2.0 aperture whereas the secondary 2MP sensor has an aperture of f/2.4 and is mainly used for portrait shots for depth of field.
The front facing camera is also 16MP and has an f/2.0 aperture.

Battery and Price

The battery on the Y89 is 3,260mAh and pairing that with a power-efficient Snapdragon 626 should give you good battery results, although the full extent of the battery performance can only be known once it’s tested in the full review.
To top it all off, although this is a smartphone launching in Q1 2019, it will still run on Android 8.1 out of the box.
The Y89 has been priced at $266 (~PKR 37,000) and it is already launched in China with no word on availability in Pakistan.
