An industry report has revealed that Samsung is approaching the
Chinese display maker BOE to introduce a new design for its upcoming Galaxy A8s.
The report, though unconfirmed, has been making rounds on the internet for a few days.
The South Korean tech giant is planning to introduce the Infinity-O
display for Galaxy A8s. Not only is the design going to be new but the
panel is also going to be of the LCD variety rather than OLED.
Using an LCD panel will also reduce the cost substantially compared to Samsung’s AMOLED displays.
The LCD panel will have a small hole in the top-left corner for the
selfie camera. As per the available information, the cut-out’s diameter
will be 6.7mm.
In fact, it is being rumored that the size of the cut out maybe even smaller for the S10, i.e., 3mm.
BOE may not be as famous as Samsung or LG for making smartphone
displays, however, BOE is producing the 6.39-inch OLED display on the
recent Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
As for the specifications of Galaxy A8s, it will come with a
Snapdragon 710 chipset, running Android 9 Pie with Samsung’s custom UI, a
3000mAh battery, and 6GB RAM according to the previous leaks.
The price and availability have not been disclosed yet. However, it is rumored to be launched sometime in December.
