Apple has never been a fan of letting its users repair their iPhones
by themselves, and this is yet another attempt. The company has
published a support document on its website where it is discouraging its
users against third party repairs again.
Apple will prompt all iPhone 11 users running iOS 13.1 with a warning
if they replace their screens with an aftermarket component. The
warning is “Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple display”.
The warning will appear on the user’s lock screen for 4 days after
the problem is first detected. It will then move to the Settings menu
where it will stay for 15 days before being moved to Settings ->
General -> About.
Apple lists a variety of problems that could occur if the display is
swapped for an aftermarket one, such as multi-touch problems, issues
with screen color accuracy and brightness, or True Tone failing to work
properly, etc.
However, to Apple’s credit, even if a display is not verified as
genuine, iOS will not stop the display from functioning normally. Since
these messages are also very well hidden, it will not impact the user
experience much during their daily use.
Regardless, Apple has issued a strong warning on its support page, warning users of the dangers of using non-genuine displays.
